C-238. Principle of differentiation
The Expansion appears to operate on the principle of differentiation. Were it given voice, it would say, “Differentiate!” More and different bodies (e.g., species, dust). More and different steps (e.g., actions, practices, molecular steps). Processes both “entropic” and “negentropic,” of composition and of decomposition.
Principle, not law. Now that we have liberated the Expansion and the S-universe from the thrall of B-ness, we can initiate further development of the human condition. The Nature of Things, qualities of the Expansion, comprises the Expansion’s three general persisting conditions of partial order, consequentiality and discontinuity.* The separateness of both bodies and steps is due to the Expansion’s differentiation.
Focus on the things of nature, rather than the Nature of Things, and the concerns of behavioral entities** in the B-universe (both risky B-ness) have led us to seek out “laws of the B-universe.” Presumably so that us (“we” if we could manage that) can adapt to them. Adapt even though we have added statutes, qua laws, to adopt. And even though adapt and adopt are not behavioral strategy enough: we must also be adept to operate in the S-universe and in accord with the Expansion’s principle of differentiation.
***
Technology differentiates. We make and take steps to produce technologies of tool and procedure … with which to make and take new steps – improved if not unique, with which to produce more new steps…. Perpetual differentiation.
This is bigness of a different kind than that of the body. But pretty much what the Expansion tells us it is. If we do not let B-ness shutter its voice. The Expansion expands. This is not the bigness of dinosaurs, but it is the bigness of “Govern” (an R-word). Each increment of functionality, whether of step or technology, breeds needed functionality.
The principle of least effort comes into play. We live in this bigness. We have to live with this bigness. But we do not have to live all of this bigness. Especially if we are adept … and not looking to get by via adapt and/or adopt.
In light of the Expansion’s principle of differentiation, it makes sense to manage our strategies in accord with what now appear to be three kinds (and loci) of principles***:
Accord (metastrategy, re Nature of Things)
Strategy
Adapt
Adopt
Adept#
Principle Loci
B-universe
S-universe
Expansion
***
* Discontinuity (aka separateness) is a quality of the Nature of Things. Conceptually, it can be spoken of as “supergappiness,” in contrast to gappiness (the quantity of relationships among N things of nature [e.g., bodies]).
** B-speak’s “behavioral entities” is also deserving of an asterisk.
*** Three kinds of forces too. The strategies are Tells. They are responsive to the three loci of forces.
# Adept: able to slice and splice, the mettles of differentiation. See C-239.
