C-246.6 Three theories: a needed conjecture
Everything as differentiation (both observer and observed), made evident by liberating the Expansion and the S-universe from the thralldom of B-ness and B-speak, by distinguishing the Nature of Things from the things of nature (a difference that makes a difference), makes it clear that we cannot simply study B-universe behavior and expect to Grasp the functionality we need to meet the challenge of needed functionality (i.e., to solve our problems).
This changes what and how we think about theory. It suggests that we need all of three kinds of theory, not just an all-embracing One-ness type theory of everything:
A theory OF: As in the “laws of the universe” tradition, a Grasp of functionality in its entirety, whenever and however executed (e.g., fatalism). How everything works.
A theory ABOUT: Everything is more than everything, as in the case of the Nature of Things relative to the things of nature. As when the folded fan of B-ness is opened up to liberate Expansion and S-universe behavior. Where the Nature of Things’ general persisting conditions of partial order, consequentiality and differentiation introduce needed functionality (i.e., our need for an operating system, lacking a pre-programmed life). How everything needs to work … too.
A theory FOR: For functionality to meet needed functionality, steps must be made and taken. We must Grasp, within the Involve of the Expansion and the S-universe, how and when steps can meet this challenge. For every step, AT and ON the Frontier of the Expansion. To take advantage of step discontinuity (our multi-step capacity), to always have the option of starting anew. How to make (and work to make) steps work. Especially procedural technology: Concepts like “public,” “democracy,” “freedom,” “union,” and many others allude to behavior not yet fully – indeed, not even adequately – realized.*

* To which the dismal record with respect to “a more perfect union” attests. “State of the Union” is a thoughtknot.
